Terms of Use
The rules for using EndureNC.
EndureNC helps relief teams send help where it's needed. It is free and run by volunteers. These terms say what it is and isn't, the risks that come with relief work, and what we are and aren't responsible for. Please read them.

Agreeing to these terms
These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and EndureNC. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean EndureNC and the volunteers who build and run it. “EndureNC” means the website, the app, and everything in them.
By using EndureNC, applying through it, or making an account, you agree to these terms. When you apply or make an account, you check a box to say so, and we keep a record of which version you agreed to and when. If you don't agree, please don't use EndureNC.
You have to be 18 or older to apply, to volunteer through EndureNC, or to have an account. EndureNC isn't meant for children.
EndureNC is run by a small volunteer team.
Not an emergency service
EndureNC is not an emergency service, and nobody watches it around the clock. If someone is hurt or in danger, call 911. For food, water, shelter and other help, call 211.
- EndureNC doesn't take requests for help from the public. Don't use it, or our contact form, to report an emergency.
- When a need is posted in EndureNC, we don't promise that help will come, or when it will come.
A free service, as it is
EndureNC is free. We provide it “as is” and “as available.” That means we don't promise that it will work, that it will be right, complete or up to date, that it will be safe from every problem, or that it will be there, online or offline, at the moment you need it.
- What's in EndureNC comes from volunteers and organizations. It can be wrong. Needs, supplies, addresses, roads and times change fast in a disaster. Check before you rely on anything, and use your own judgment.
- A phone without signal shows what it last heard. It may be hours old.
- Maps can be out of date or wrong, especially after a storm. Follow road closures and official directions, not the map.
- We don't check, store, handle or guarantee any supplies listed in EndureNC, including food, water and medicine. They come from others.
- We can change, pause or stop any part of EndureNC at any time.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we give no warranties of any kind, stated or implied. That includes any implied warranty that EndureNC is fit for a particular purpose, that it is of good enough quality to be sold, or that it doesn't infringe anyone's rights.
Volunteering and its risks
Volunteering is your choice. Nobody has to take a job. You can say no, or stop, at any time, for any reason. You aren't an employee or agent of EndureNC, and you aren't paid.
Relief work has real risks. It happens during and after disasters. It can mean damaged buildings and roads, downed power lines, floodwater, mud and debris, heavy lifting, chainsaws and other tools, long hours, heat, cold and bad weather. People can get hurt or sick, and things can get damaged or lost.
You choose what you do, and you take on those risks yourself. That means:
- You decide what is safe for you, and use your own judgment. Don't do work you aren't trained for or able to do safely.
- You follow official orders, closures and warnings, like evacuation orders and closed roads. Don't go where officials say not to.
- You are responsible for your own safety and health, your gear, your vehicle, your driver's license and your insurance, and for following traffic and other laws.
We don't run background checks, and we don't check anyone's training, licenses, insurance or vehicles. A relief effort's team may call to check who you are, but that isn't a background check. We don't supervise the work.
Groups are independent
Organizations, supply sites (pods), crews and other groups that use EndureNC are independent. So are the admins and dispatchers who run each relief effort. They aren't our employees, agents or partners, and we don't control them.
- We aren't responsible for what they do, say, post or decide, including the jobs they hand out.
- Listing an organization, or an organization using EndureNC, isn't an endorsement either way. We don't vouch for them, and they don't vouch for us.
- When the app calls a group a “partner,” that only means it can see more. It isn't a legal partnership.
How you use it
When you use EndureNC, you agree to:
- Give true information, and not pretend to be someone else.
- Share other people's personal details, like names, phone numbers and addresses, only as far as a job needs, and only with the people doing it.
- Not use EndureNC to harass anyone, to scam, sell or advertise, or for anything against the law.
- Not try to see information you aren't allowed to see, get around limits, or break, overload, copy or scrape EndureNC. If you find a problem like that, tell us through the contact form instead.
- Keep your password and your phone safe. You are responsible for what is done with your account.
We can turn off any account, or take away anyone's access, at any time, including to keep people safe.
Limits on our responsibility
Please read this part carefully. It limits what you can ask from us if something goes wrong. Each part applies to the fullest extent the law allows.
Assumption of risk
You understand the risks of relief work described above, and you choose to take them on yourself when you use EndureNC or volunteer through it.
Release
You release us, which means you give up any claim against us, for injury, illness, death, loss or damage that comes from using EndureNC, from information in it, from any group that uses it, or from volunteering or other work you found or arranged through it.
Limitation of liability
We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost data, however they are caused, even if we were told they could happen.
EndureNC is free. Our total liability to you for all claims about EndureNC or these terms, put together, is limited to the amount you paid us to use it, which is zero dollars ($0). Where the law doesn't allow that, it is limited to the lowest amount the law allows.
Indemnity
If someone makes a claim against us because of something you did, something you posted, or because you broke these terms or the law, you agree to cover the cost of that claim, including reasonable lawyers' fees, and to help us respond to it.
Some places don't allow some of these limits. Where they don't, the limits apply as far as the law does allow, and nothing here takes away a right the law says can't be given up.
Your information
How we keep, use and delete information is on the Privacy page. It is part of these terms.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. When we do, we change the date at the top. If you have an account, the app asks you to accept the new version the next time you use it online.
If you keep using EndureNC after a change, or accept again in the app, you accept the new terms. If you don't agree with them, stop using EndureNC.
Which law applies
The laws of North Carolina apply to these terms and to anything about EndureNC, without regard to rules that would apply another state's law. Any dispute about EndureNC or these terms will be decided only by the state or federal courts in North Carolina, and you and we agree to use those courts.
The rest
- If part of these terms can't be enforced, that part is changed only as much as it must be, or left out, and the rest still applies.
- The whole agreement. These terms and the Privacy page are the whole agreement between you and us about EndureNC. They take the place of anything said or agreed before.
- No waiver. If we don't enforce part of these terms right away, we can still enforce it later.
- Passing them on. If another organization takes over running EndureNC, these terms pass to it. You can't pass your part of them to someone else.
- Headings are only there to help you find things. They don't change what the terms say.
How to reach us
Use the contact form. It isn't for emergencies: if someone is hurt or in danger, call 911.
