Disaster relief coordination · Western North Carolina

Connecting compassion with action.

Even when the cell towers are down.

Supply sites, dispatchers, volunteers and organizations work from one live picture of what's needed and where help is going, each seeing what their job needs. It saves on your phone first and syncs the moment there's signal.

Why it exists

When needs change by the minute, posts get buried.

In a disaster, the newest information is scattered across social media, and by the time a need gets noticed it may already be filled or long missed. EndureNC is the one place that's current: supply sites, volunteers and organizations see what's needed and where help is going, so the right help reaches the right place at the right time.

Protect

Coordinated defense of community resources during emergencies.

Care

Compassionate delivery of aid to those who need it most.

Connect

Bridging volunteers, supply sites and dispatchers in real time.

Helping? Share the sign-up link, not the post · A screenshot of someone's need is out of date by the time it's shared. If you're helping, send people the sign-up link instead, so everyone works from what's true now.

The system

How it works

The real app with made-up data, in 30 seconds: a pod asks, dispatch sends help, the volunteer says yes and dispatch double-checks. Try it yourself
  1. Pods post what they need and what they have

Each point of distribution lists its needs by urgency and keeps its inventory current. Several people can count at once as deliveries come in, each on their own phone, and the totals add up.

  2. Dispatchers coordinate

Dispatchers see every site's needs and extra supplies in one place, then line up the people, supply runs and organizations to meet them.

  3. Help arrives

Dispatch sends volunteers and organizations, each with where, when and who to ask. An organization's lead sends their own team. Everyone marks on the way and done, so every pod sees what help is coming.

Bringing two chainsaws · 8:16 PM

Daily briefing · Each morning everyone gets what they need to know for the day, built only from what they're allowed to see, so nobody chases old posts. The aim: within 24 hours of a pod posting a need, it's connected with a volunteer or organization that can help.

For organizations

Bring your team into the same picture.

National Guard units, GIS and mapping teams, Starlink and communications crews, and anyone who needs real-time information from the affected area.

Get dispatched

Dispatch sends your organization the work, with where, when and who to ask, the same way it sends volunteers.

Send your own team

Your lead decides who from your organization goes, and everyone reports on the way and done.

See it live

Partners can follow every pod, need and supply as it changes, read only, for mapping, logistics or planning. To ask, apply as an organization and say you only want to watch.

Bringing Starlink kits? · EndureNC has no Starlink units of its own yet. Organizations that bring or buy their own, and place them with pods, are how pods without signal get connected.

Built for bad signal

Works offline. Syncs on its own.

  • Every change saves on your device first and shows up right away.
  • When there's signal it syncs, and everyone else sees the change within seconds.
  • Counts like cases of water add up correctly, even when two people update them offline.
  • Installed from this website, the app opens with no connection at all.
  • Being offline is fine. Find signal once a day (a hilltop, a library, a Starlink) and the day's changes go out before the next morning's briefing.

The team

Who's involved

Each role has its own tools and sees only what its job needs. Joining takes an invitation or an approved volunteer application.

Pod manager

Point of distribution

Runs a distribution point: what it needs, what it has, and who's coming. Their pod team counts inventory as it arrives.

Dispatcher

Coordinates the response

Sees every need and surplus across the region, matches them, and assigns volunteers and organizations to the work.

Volunteer

Community heroes

Applies with their skills and availability, then gets assigned where they can do the most good.

Organization

Partner groups

Guard units, mapping teams, pilots and more: dispatched like volunteers, and their lead sends their own people.

Ambassador

Community liaison

Spreads the word to supply sites, groups and new volunteers, and brings them to dispatch.

A volunteer's phone number is visible only to them, dispatchers and admins.

    Google Sheets, Forms and Docs

When disaster hit western North Carolina, relief was coordinated with shared spreadsheets, check-in forms and a daily report.

  2. Next

    A web app

The spreadsheets became an app with roles for supply sites, dispatchers, volunteers and ambassadors.

  3. Now

    Standalone and ready

A system that installs on any device, keeps working without signal, and can sit ready at no cost until the next disaster.

Who runs it · EndureNC is run by a small volunteer team. It started in western North Carolina during Hurricane Helene in 2024. To reach the team, use the contact form.

What we do

We get the system to the people on the ground.

When something happens, we find people on the ground to spread the word, so no one person carries it. EndureNC has to be there and work: online or off, in real time, and secure.

Ambassadors

People across the region who spread EndureNC to pods, groups and new volunteers.

Pods

Every point of distribution signed up, posting what it needs and what it has.

Volunteers

People on the ground, placed where they do the most good.

Local efforts

Towns and organizations already at work, using the same system.

Connection

The goal, once there is funding: a Starlink for every pod. Until then, organizations that bring or buy their own are how pods get connected.

Ready before the next disaster.

Volunteer, sign up your supply site (we call it a pod), or bring your organization. Or try every role in the demo, with made-up data that resets itself every day.
